Life's A Party
I went to Costco with my grandchildren today. Side note: It was so fun! All the kids piled out of the Van. When Kate climbed out, to my surprise, positioned right no top of her head was a cute little party hat . "Where'd ya get that cute hat, Kate," I asked?
"I made it Grandma," she boldly replied. Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. I could tell she was super proud of it.
I looked it over carefully. Sure enough, one cute little party hat made of paper, adorned with a pink feather, carefully taped to her well used blue head band. I really was impressed with her creative cleverness. "Wow," I said with excitement, I think I even smacked my lips together in an expression of jubilee. "That's really cool," I emphasised the word, "Cool."
It was about this time Emilyn made her sentiments known. "Yup, in Kate's world everyday is a party." Her parental words were accompanied by her father's famous eye roll. I just started laughing. Kate grinned at me from ear to ear. She had no clue why her mother was rolling her eyes.
We finished our shopping. Kate wore her little party hat proudly from start to finish. Just before we left the store, I noticed the wind was blowing hard. One of the feathers on the hat was looking a little frazzled. I didn't want the wind to ruin it, so I suggest Kate tuck it in her coat. I could tell she was impressed with my concern over her creative efforts as she quickly slipped it off her head and zipped it up safe against her chest.
We made our way to the van and I hugged all the kids. Right before Kate climbed in I gave her one last kiss on the forehead, then I asked her if maybe she'd make me a party hat. "Sure Nana," she said with an excited gleam in her eye. Then I promised her I'd call her up soon and we'd go shopping again. I promised her I'd wear my hat too. We shook on it. I can't wait.
I waved as Em and her van full of darling children drove off. Then I climbed in my own car and made my way home. As I drove, I kept wondering, "How do grown ups get to be so boring?" Then I made a mental note...
Note to self: "Spend some time each day in Kate's World!" ParTAY! After all, Life, with all it's amazingness, should be celebrated every day!!!
