God's Love

I came around the corner and my pace was lacking. Everything inside me felt tired, worn down, desperate and drawn out. The need to gravitate to a better me can be exhausting. Today it weighed in on me with a heaviness I hate. I felt sorely discouraged.

Then an amazing thing happened... I looked up! One single act changed everything.

Immediately every weighed out thought lifted. It disappeared in a single glance as I stood gazing at spring's first green. And as if God had waved a magic wand banishing all discouraged thought, peace, joy, and love took hold of me.

I marvel at God's ability to love. His love is constant yet instantaneous and often comes when I least expect it. Always, without exception, it lifts the heavy heart.

God's love is everywhere. If I listen I can hear it. If I look I can see it.  And if I open my heart to Him, I can feel it. His love is in the color of the sky. It is in the song of each little bird flitting from branch to branch with excitement as new life begins again. And today I found it growing on a giant willow.

Happily, I finished the intended five miles. Then I grabbed my camera, got in my car, and came back for the picture. The picture of God's love.

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will themselves not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work for the ultimate dream that rests in your heart."

Spring Snowboarding

Life Is Spiritual

It's A Rocky Kind Of Love

I've lived beneath these stately mountains my whole life. That is with the exception of the four years I lived in Cleveland. During that time period I missed them more than I missed my mother and I love my mother.

When we first moved to Cleveland I learned really fast that I got all of my bearings from those jagged peaks that were always by my side. Suddenly, in this mountainless city I was now residing in, I found myself continually getting lost every time I drove out of my driveway. I ripped up a map one day coming home from the hospital. It took me forever to figure out which way was North!  I finally learned to pay attention to the sun, but forever I was always looking for a mountain to give me direction.

The other day I was at the Junction. Then I noticed it. A Quote boldly displayed there in the front of the Solomon Center.

"The mountains are the means;
The man is the end.
The idea is to improve the man,
Not to reach the top."
  ~Walter Bonatti

A couple of years ago we started a fall tradition. We like to take a hike to the top of big Ben. It's a rocky kind of love. 9,712 feet of it! And yes it improves me.

It's All About The Cursive

You can tell how old a person is these days by the way they write. The young print, while the old write in beautiful looping detail. I love cursive writing! When my oldest daughter got married I hand wrote every invitation in beautiful Colonial penned ink, every letter in every name, connecting in a swirl. To this day I look back on that choice with a smile. At the time people thought I was crazy. There was purpose in my madness. It was therapeutic and my cursive writing became refined. Kate and I experimented today with cursive. Kate was showing me her newly learned beautiful penmanship. I told her to stay with it, she has talent. I hope it's making a come back! Cursive writing is beautiful and and truly an art! Love your work Kate!

K is for Kitty, Kate, and Kind

There is an old English Proverb that states;"The soul is healed by being with children." Today was a healing day! I have found a much greater need to be with children after having spent time with a critical judgmental grown up.  With some adult people, no matter how hard you try, you are never enough. Children on the other hand are always generous in heart, forgiving by nature, and have the ability to love abundantly. Children are complementary, while some adults would die if they had to squeak out a compliment. Children appreciate the smallest things, and have the ability to overlook anything. They are positive by nature. No wonder we are commanded to be like them.

Dark Day, Dark Night

The news said it was a Super Moon, 14% bigger. It didn't feel any brighter.
Today was a day with very little light, even with a full super moon.

Time & All Eternity

"As we got closer to marriage, I felt completely confident that Gordon loved me.  But I also knew somehow that I would never come first with him.  I knew I was going to be second in his life and that the Lord was going to be first.  And that was okay.  It seemed to me that if you understood the gospel and the purpose of our being here, you would want a husband who put the Lord first."

Home

A small and winding road
With houses scattered here and there
Along the side . . .but not in rows.
Tiny fragments framed beneath the mountain's stately pose.

And chimneys burn the kindling of life's love and warmth
As winter sings her finale song until another season.
Awe a breath of green and birds that echo life's delight
For any reason.

I see my life reflected in the pasture stream,
That wanders on it's way to who knows where.
And as the cow that stands to graze day after day.
Always there to dot the country's side;
And the scene more peaceful than it's ever been.
So does my heart feel just the same.

How long I've grown accustomed to it's simple splendor.
And memories take me back till I can ere remember.
Of days when life was nothing but a song,
And dance I would below the shady hill
Pretending all the word was just a stage,
And cat tails stood my audience at will.

Who was I?
Anyone I wished to be.

Somedays I wish I were a child again.
But here . . . My love will always be.
My souls delight will never let me roam,
No,
Not far from this little winding road that I call . . .
Home.

The Definition Of Hanging Out

1-To socialize with your friends, whether it is of your choosing or not;
most of the time the term is used to refer to a type of fun.

2- Being bored together.

Gotta Love Those Pony Tail Days!

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

Well, “she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today?” So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

“H-M-M,” she said, “I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today?” So she did
and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.

“Well,” she said, “today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony tail.” So she did and
she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn’t a single hair on her head.

“YEA!” she exclaimed, “I don’t have to fix my hair today!”

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,

Love generously,

Care deeply,

Speak kindly…….

Leave the rest to God.
