Thirty Years Ago

Journal entry:
I still remember the day he gave them to me, a dozen roses made out of one dollar bills. It's been thirty years since that day. It was hard to part with the dust covered vase of love, but a cleaning frenzy hit me this morning. In an effort to de-junk, I took each rose apart, washed, dried, and ironed each bill, now tomorrow I'm going shopping.

It takes three dollars to make one rose. In the end I counted my money and only thirty dollars could be accounted for. Two roses had been confiscated. I wondered who the thief was.

Deserey came home late and saw my cleaning efforts strewn everywhere. "Mom, what are you doing," she said. "I started at seven this morning Des, and now it's nearly midnight. What does it look like I'm doing," her question was annoying me.

Em and Kaedell also came to see the mess. Kaedell had to put in her two cents worth as well. "Mom, you're suppose to finish one room before you start another," she touted. "I'm up to five bags Kaedell," It felt good to brag about my hard efforts. Then I told all three of them how I was going to be making a large haul to the DI.

After seeing the mess and visiting for a bit, Emilyn and Kaedell went home. They promised to come back and help me though and I was happy about that. After they left I told Deserey all about the missing money. "Can you believe someone raided my roses?" I was very complaintive. She started to laugh.

"I remember the night exactly mom," she said. Then she went on to tell me how her and Kaedell were home alone one night and decided they needed pizza. They both hunted the house over for some spare cash. That's when Kaedell spotted the green dust laden roses. "Mom will never miss two roses Des," she told her. Des went on to tell me all about how fun it was to steel my money and how they really enjoyed the pizza! Her memory of the whole event was crystal clear. It left me laughing.

I think tomorrow when I go shopping, I'll buy more than just pizza. I think I'll spend more than thirty dollars too! Hahaha I'm going to buy myself something really nice to remember my roses with.

Today was a great day!
